Why is field hockey a hard sport? ›

The game requires agility, hand-eye coordination, and excellent ball control. Players wear shin guards and mouthguards for protection, but the overall gear is less extensive compared to ice hockey.

Physical toughness

Hockey is one of the most physically demanding sports on the body. Players cover greater distances over a shorter period of time compared to most other team sports.

The Colorado Bears Field Hockey Club exists to inspire generations of passionate, wholesome, community-focused leaders and dreamers. We do this by offering fun and educational field hockey programs to players ages 5-55+ in Denver and Boulder, Colorado.

Recent recordings clocked a ball travelling at 163km/h, and players will routinely hit or drag flick the ball at speeds in excess of 90-100km/h. Top international players will get the ball moving at speeds of up to 125km/h.

Ice hockey, skiing/snowboarding and field hockey are typically the most expensive due to high equipment and travel costs. Costs can reach an average of $2,583/year per child.

Soccer is a longer timed game, almost double to a field hockey game but bending down and the movements of field hockey can make it harder to play for extended periods of time. Field hockey has different hits, skills such as air dibbling, maneuvers, and more – so for the winner for skill most would say field hockey.

Both sports require a high fitness level and physical skill. However, due to the fast-paced nature of ice hockey, it requires more agility and strength than field hockey does. This is why ice hockey players need to wear extra protective equipment - to protect themselves from flying pucks and hard checks!

Coaches do not want a player with a bad attitude. Display your passion for the game and excitement to be on the field. Field Hockey coaches look for players who hustle, volunteer to go first, and our a leader on the turf. If you mess up, do not display frustration and hang your head.

Boys and girls, ages 5 to 14. Play & Learn Field Hockey is targeted to beginners and those who have participated in the sport of field hockey previously, primarily in an introductory experience. The ideal athlete has decided to play, but has yet to experience the entirety of the game.

Field hockey is associated with a high risk of injury, particularly sprains, strains, fractures, and bruises to the lower limbs, hand, and head.
