This area offers many exciting armaments, provided players know where to look. Below is an expanded list of some of the best early weapons in Limgrave, now with additional information on damage, scaling, and weight stats to help players optimize their builds.

1 Caestus

One Of The Earliest Fist Weapons In Elden Ring

Fist weapons are somewhat underappreciated in Elden Ring, often overlooked by newcomers in favor of larger, more imposing weapons. Despite their small size, fist weapons pack a punch in combat, and the Caestus is a solid early-game option worth trying. With fast attacks, lightweight, and strong scaling, the Caestus can prove quite powerful. The main drawback is its short reach, requiring players to stay close to their targets at all times. The Caestus also comes with the Endure skill, which boosts all absorptions by 45% and increases poise against enemy attacks, making it great for defensive playstyles.

Players can purchase the Caestus in Stormveil Castle from Gatekeeper Gostoc for 800 runes. However, they must first either defeat Godrick the Grafted or find the Rusty Key by thoroughly exploring the castle.

2 Partisan

Although players can farm the Partisan early in Limgrave, it has a very low drop rate, dropping only from the heavy Godrick Knight found in the Gatefront Ruins. Be prepared for a lengthy grind, and it's recommended to boost your Arcane stat or use Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot to increase one's luck during the process.

3 Miséricorde

Best Weapon In The Game For Critical Damage

The Miséricorde dagger stands out in Elden Ring due to its unmatched critical damage rating of 140, making it the best weapon in the game for critical strikes. Paired with the dagger class's critical multiplier of 4.0x, players can deliver devastating critical hits, dealing between 650 and 750 damage with an un-upgraded Miséricorde, even without using any specific talismans. For true assassin builds, this dagger offers great potential, capable of finishing off bosses with just a couple of critical hits (assuming players first break the enemy's stance).

One of the best aspects of the Miséricorde is its availability early in the game. It only requires a single Stonesword Key to obtain and can be found in a locked armory room in Stormveil Castle, behind a white fog wall guarding the corpse that holds the dagger.

4 Banished Knight's Halberd

Players Can Get An Already Upgraded +8 Variant Of This Halberd

The Banished Knight's Halberd is a solid choice for a halberd in Elden Ring, but what truly sets it apart is the fact that players can acquire a pre-upgraded +8 version of the weapon in Limgrave. This saves early Smithing Stones and allows players to wield a powerful weapon right from the start. The Banished Knight's Halberd boasts decent damage, a versatile moveset including a thrust attack, and excellent reach, making it a strong weapon early in the game. Additionally, when infused with Occult, it scales to A in Arcane, which can be beneficial for certain builds.

While the Banished Knight's Halberd can be farmed from Banished Knights in Stormveil Castle, this may not be ideal due to the strength of these enemies at early stages. Instead, players can either kill Edgar when they encounter him at Castle Morne in the Weeping Peninsula or follow his questline. Eventually, after Edgar goes mad and invades as Edgar the Revenger at Revenger's Shack, defeating him will reward players with the upgraded +8 halberd along with the Spinning Strikes Ash of War.

5 Warhawk's Talon

The Warhawk's Talon is an elegant, lightweight straight sword in Elden Ring, perfect for classic Dexterity builds. Surprisingly, despite its potential, the Warhawk's Talon does not have any passive bleed buildup, which could have made it an even stronger choice for the early game.

Obtaining the Warhawk's Talon isn't easy, as it has a low drop rate (2%) from Warhawks found in Stormveil Castle. The best spot to farm them is near the Rampart Tower Site of Grace, where four Warhawks can be found. Even with high Discovery rates, players should be prepared for a lengthy farming session if they aim to get this beautiful sword early.

6 Large Club

It's Just A Huge And Heavy Stick

The Large Club in Elden Ring is the true definition of 'Bonk,' boasting good Strength scaling just as players might expect. Its heavy weight could be perceived as an advantage, as it is capable of crushing enemy armor with every hit, dealing great poise damage. The weapon's Barbaric Roar Skill has several effects: it adds direct physical damage to each attack, briefly increases Strength scaling, and alters the moveset of strong attacks for an even more devastating effect.

The Large Club can be found in Limgrave, near the Forlorn Hound Evergaol entrance. It is located on the lowest cliff south of the prison, right near a spiritspring.

7 Erdtree Greatbow

A Rather Underutilized Ranged Weapon Due To How Challenging It Is To Get

In addition to its regular physical damage, the Erdtree Greatbow inflicts a significant amount of Holy damage on enemies with every shot, even without firing special arrows. Also, when paired with Golden Great Arrows, it deals 20 percent more damage. As a Holy weapon, this bow primarily scales with Faith, making it less effective for Dexterity-based archer builds. Its weapon Skill, Through and Through, enables arrows to pass through every enemy in their path, which could be invaluable when dealing with multiple foes in confined spaces.

There are several obstacles standing in the way of players who want to get Erdtree Greatbow early on. First, they'll need two Stonesword Keys to access the initially blocked path into Fringefolk Hero's Grave. Second, not only do players need to survive the Grave's nasty challenges and traps, but they have to destroy the moving chariot by dropping a pot on it, which could require some patience and practice.

8 Uchigatana

The Only Katana Available In Limgrave, But A Very Decent Choice For Bleed Builds

The only katana available in Limgrave, the Uchigatana , is one of the best weapons players can get. It does decent damage and has innate bleed build-up, making it perfect for bleed builds. Additionally, suppose a player chooses the samurai class. In that case, they already start with one of these, meaning they can easily get a second one — wielding two Unchigatana will allow players to power their stance.

The weapon can be found on a corpse hanging from a ledge near a flight of stairs in the Deathtouched Catacombs, northeast of the Warmaster's shack in Stormhill.

9 Highland Axe

A Fine Choice For Combat When An Attack Boost Or Critical Damage Is Required

The Highland Axe is a fine weapon that scales from Strength and Dexterity equally, making it suitable for quality builds. However, players will use this weapon for its ability to increase the potency of roar Skills. Combined with the roar medallion, players can deal serious damage.

The passive Skill does not require players to use the weapon; have it on their person, and it will still work. Players can find the axe in Stormveil Castle , which can be looted from a corpse in the large room with the Grafted Scion. The body is resting under the giant painting of Godfrey.

10 Twinblade

One Of The Few Twinblades, This One's Moveset Is Surprisingly Versatile

A versatile and deadly early-game weapon that primarily scales with Strength and Dexterity and has low requirements; this is a natural choice for any melee build that wants a large area of effect on their attacks. The Twinblade wide and fast strikes can damage multiple foes at once, and its Spinning Slash Skill performs a quick 360-degree attack that spins again with an additional input, causing solid poise damage.

The Twinblade is pretty easy to get, as it is found inside a chest in the underground cellar in the Dragon-Burnt Ruins. However, there's a little trick, as the cellar's entry is surrounded by four intact walls, which makes it hard to enter the room on foot. Using Torrent might help, though.

11 Reduvia

A Deadly Dagger That Causes Targets To Bleed Without Striking Them

One of the best daggers in the game, the Reduvia dagger is a weapon players will want to get. It has an innate bleed and fast attack speed, making it easy to stack the bleed build-up. However, what players will like from this dagger is its awesome Ashes of War: Reduvia Blood Blade, which allows the player to fire a short-range blood projectile that stacks more bleed build-up than a melee attack, making it a must-have for builds that focus on bleed.

The Reduvia dagger is dropped by Bloody Finger Nerijus, who invades the player's world along the stream just outside Murkwater Cave. Additionally, it's immediately usable for the bandit class as it already meets the stat requirement off the bat, making it a perfect early-game weapon for the class.

12 Pike

Ideal For Those Who Favor Melee Range Over Everything Else

The longest weapon in the game, the Pike is one of the best choices in Elden Ring that players can obtain from Limgrave. It has decent damage, average scaling, and a considerable range advantage against most melee enemies in the region. Additionally, it can be infused with the best Ashes of War, which, combined with its reach advantage, makes it an excellent choice.

Furthermore, the Pike can be used alongside a shield and can even perform an attack without lowering it, meaning players can attack while defending simultaneously, making it a perfect weapon for tank builds. This awesome spear can be found in the challenging Stormveil Castle. It can be looted from a corpse in the heavily guarded courtyard beside the Liftside Chamber Site of Grace.

13 Omen Cleaver

A Menacing Curved Greatsword With Excellent Reach

One of the few Curved Greatswords obtained from Limgrave, the Omen Cleaver is a solid weapon. It deals decent damage and has good scaling. It can also be infused with Ashes of War, making it flexible for quality builds. In addition, it is the fourth longest Curved Greatsword giving it an edge over the other weapons in the region.

The Omen Cleaver can be farmed from the Omen enemies wielding it. Players can find one in the heavily guarded courtyard near the Liftside Chamber Site of Grace in Stormveil Castle.

14 Bloodhound's Fang

A Curved Greatsword Featuring A One-Of-A-Kind Ash Of War

The Bloodhound's Fang is one of the best Curved Greatswords in the game. It is the third longest of its weapon class and has innate bleed build-up, giving it that extra edge over the other greatswords. However, this weapon's Ash of War: Bloodhound's Finesse sets this sword apart, which lets players perform a fade-away strike and then allows a dashing follow-up strike.

It is dropped by the mini-boss Bloodhound Knight Darriwil at the Forlorn Hound Evergaol, at the southernmost part of Limgrave. This makes it easily accessible to those strong enough to take him down early on.

15 Godslayer's Seal

An Impressive Magic Seal For Those Who Favor Godslayer Incantations

The Godslayer's Seal is a Sacred Seal that can be obtained early in Elden Ring. It scales from Strength and Faith, making it perfect for such builds. However, players use this for its ability to boost Godslayer Incantations like Black Flame, Black Flame Ritual, and Scouring Black Flame. Additionally, it outperforms the Finger Seal at Faith 60, so it is worth picking up.

It can be found behind a sword key door in Stormveil Castle close to the Rampart Tower Site of Grace. Furthermore, with the Godslayer's Seal, players will also get the Godskin Prayerbook containing Godslayer Incantations players can use with the seal.

16 Lordsworn's Greatsword

A Perfect Choice For Parry-Active Play With An Emphasis On Critical Damage

Weapon players are likely to find early on in the game, the Lordsworn's Greatsword is one of the best ones in the region. It has decent scaling and good damage. It can also be buffed with magic and consumables, which is handy when players need additional damage. However, what sets this greatsword apart is its critical modifier. It is the only greatsword with a critical above 100. This makes it a good weapon for players who love to parry and backstab.

Found on a Carriage in the Gatefront Ruins camp just outside the Stormgate, players will find the Lordsworn's Greatsword on their way to Stormveil Castle. Additionally, the weapon has the same scaling for Dexterity and Strength, making it a sword players will want to use if they are going for a Quality build.

17 Great Épée

A Light And Reliable Thrusting Weapon For Strength Builds

The lightest among its weapon class, the Great Épée is the go-to choice for players who want to use Heavy Thrusting Swords from the get-go. Like its longer brother, the Godskin Stitcher, it deals decent damage and has good scaling, though the Strength build is slightly better than the Dexterity build. However, what sets this weapon apart from the rest of its brothers, is its heavy attack, which is a sweeping attack as opposed to the usual thrust, allowing it to hit multiple enemies.

Additionally, going the Strength build will allow players to wield it with a great shield, enabling players to block while attacking, just like a spear. The Great Épée can be found in a chest at a camp Northeast of the Forlorn Hound Evergaol.

18 Dragon Communion Seal

A Great Choice For Those Favoring Madness And Bleed Builds Powered By Dragon's Might

Scaling with Faith and Arcane, this seal is perfect for madness and bleed builds that want to use incantations. The Dragon Communion Seal allows these builds to use offensive or buff incantations, making them more versatile. However, what sets this seal apart is its ability to boost Dragon Communion Incantations.

It is easily obtainable for those strong enough to brave the Fringefolk Hero's Grave and kill the Banished Knight that will drop it. The Hero's Grave is at the beginning of the game behind the stonesword key door that requires two to open.

19 Golden Halberd

A Hard-To-Obtain Halberd That Is Probably The Best In Its Class

The Golden Halberd is arguably the best halberd in Elden Ring and one that can be obtained in the game's first area. It is a great Faith weapon that scales with Strength, Faith, and Dexterity, dealing a significant amount of Holy damage with each strike. The halberd's Golden Vow Skill increases not only the player's attack power and defense stats but also those of their allies within range. For players looking to wield the Golden Halberd early on, starting with the Vagabond class is recommended to meet its requirements more quickly.

Getting the Golden Halberd as early as possible might be tempting, but it has its price. To obtain this weapon, players need to defeat the hard-to-miss Tree Sentinel boss right at the start of the Limgrave region, which is not an easy task.

20 Erdsteel Dagger

Pretty Weak In The Early Game, But Slaps Later On Once Properly Upgraded

At first glance, this beautiful dagger appears to be one of the weakest in its class, but just stick with it, and it'll deliver as the player's character grows stronger. Not only can the Erdsteel Dagger scale with both Int and Faith, making it one of the few weapons to scale with two different stats, but it also features a unique R2 moveset that performs quick and deadly double slashes. Coupled with its Quickstep Skill, players can easily deal massive damage, while evading incoming attacks at the same time.

Obtaining the Erdsteel Dagger in Limgrave is a straightforward process, but it does require some effort. It is given to players by Kenneth Haight as a reward for fully clearing out Fort Haight. The good thing, though, is that no bosses are involved. That's not to say it isn't challenging.
